The forward grew up a huge Toffees fan and swiftly rose through the ranks at Goodison Park.

He made his debut aged just 16 in 2002… and his perception of his heroes swiftly changed when he started seeing them up close.

Chatting to Toffee TV, he said: “It’s mad how quick it changed.

“For me to go in with Duncan (Ferguson), Stubbsy (Alan Stubbs)… all of them I’ve grown up watching…”

The host then added the name “Mark Pembridge”, with Rooney laughing before adding: “To then go and play with them, train with them every day, play with them…

“And then so quickly I remember thinking ‘these are crap’.”

Everton came seventh in Rooney’s first season, the future England captain scoring six times as he adapted to regular Premier League football at such a young age.

The following campaign was a more challenging one, with the Toffees only narrowly avoiding relegation by coming 17th.

Rooney, now 37, managed nine goals and four assists that term – and would leave for Manchester United the following summer.

After 13 glittering years, during which he became the Red Devils’ all-time leading goalscorer – Wazza returned to his beloved Goodison Park in 2017.

He scored 10 times in 31 Prem outings before leaving Everton for a second time – finishing off his career with spells at DC United and Derby County.

Rooney went on to manage the Rams, before leaving last summer and subsequently taking up the head coach position at DC United.

A third said: “Omg it looks like a sore one.”

Carol reassured her fans that she was on the mend after spilling boiling water on her arm.

The meteorologist explained: “I accidentally spilt a mug of boiling water over it…it hurt at the time…OUCH!”

Carol usually leaves viewers in stitches with her one-liners and accidental blunders.

Last month, she was left red-faced after her co-stars pointed out a major mishap live on-air.

As Carol concluded her bulletin, presenter Sally Nugent noticed a technical error appearing on the weather screen, as a random T had popped up next to the box reading Tuesday.

“You’ve got a stray T there!” Jon announced said, as Carol tried to ignore it and said: “I know, I saw that.”

“T-T-Tuesday!” Jon giggled, as Carol replied: “Trying to hide it… nobody saw it!” and covered the extra letter with her hand.

Unable to avoid a cheeky quip, Sally joked: “Until co-star Jon Kay pointed it out! Sorry Carol, thank you very much!”

Carol quickly fired back: “Yeah, thanks Jon!”

Jon then followed it up with a warning and told Carol: “Don’t drop your Ts.”

However, the trio took it in good humour and were left in hysterics, with Carol laughing: “I’m off for one now, actually!”

“Get one for us as well, see you later!” Jon told her as she disappeared from the screen.

Peter Lawwell Celtic return savaged as Hoops hero blasts ego, says fans don’t want him and it’s like 10IAR didn’t happen

PETER LAWWELL’S return to Celtic as chairman has been given a frosty reception by ex-Hoops star Charlie Nicholas.

The former Hoops chief executive’s return to the club as non-executive chairman from January 1 was announced on Friday.

Charlie Nicholas isn’t a fan of the former Hoops chief executive[/caption]

It was given a mixed reception from the club’s fans – and Nicholas reckons it is a “negative move”.

The former striker says “it’s no secret I haven’t been a fan of Lawwell for a long time”.

And he’s left no-one in any doubt about those feelings with some withering comments in his Daily Express column.

Nicholas said: “Peter Lawwell’s appointment as Celtic chairman from January is certainly not a forward step.

“People are talking about him returning to the club but he has never really been away.

“I’m sure the majority of Celtic supporters will not be welcoming him back.

“It is a negative move for the club, although it’s no secret I haven’t been a fan of Lawwell for a long time.

“He has too much of an ego and it’s too much about him.

“Being chairman is different from his previous role as chief executive but he is still there, with a voice.

“The 63-year-old stepped down at the end of the 2020/21 season which saw Celtic fail to win 10-in-a-row.

“Well, if you know your history that was more down to Lawwell than Neil Lennon or anybody else who fell asleep at the wheel and messed up.

“The decision to bring him back to Parkhead is a camouflage, like it never happened.”

Rule 97 of the Highway Code states drivers must have “footwear and clothing which does not prevent you using the controls in the correct manner.”

Car experts at have offered a list of the clothing items that could cost drivers a hefty fine.

Surprisingly, drivers wearing coats and scarves can be fined £100 and get three points on their licence.

Large clothing items such as long coats and scarves may prevent drivers from using the vehicle’s controls effectively.

If the driver is involved in an accident, police could issue a ‘driving without care and attention’ charge and a fine.

Other tips for driving safely this winter are having the correct tyres on your vehicle and checking your tyre’s tread.

But, also, it is advisable to remove snow and grime from your number plate because the plate has to be visible to cameras and other drivers.

Louise Thomas, car insurance expert at, said: “Road accidents can often be more common during the winter months because of the bad weather, density of traffic and difficult road conditions.

“It’s extremely important to ensure your vehicle is ready for the winter months, to make sure you are driving as safely as possible.

“No matter the weather, there are scenarios when your insurer may not pay out on an accident.

“Your car insurance should cover you in all weather conditions, but they may not pay out if you’ve broken a traffic offence which has caused an accident or failed to maintain your vehicle.

“For peace of mind, you should check the list of significant exclusions and limitations on your car insurance policy before setting off.”

Asda to create 10,000 new jobs as supermarket rolls out Express stores

ASDA will create 10,000 new jobs as it announces plans to open hundreds more convenience stores.

The supermarket giant is set to open 300 more Asda Express stores, creating thousands of jobs over the next four years.

Asda is to create 10,000 new jobs as the supermarket opens more Express stores[/caption]

Asda opened its latest Express store, in Tottenham Hale, north London, today.

It followed the launch of its first convenience store in Sutton Coldfield in November.

The stores will stock around 3,000 products, including a fresh food, as well as products from Asda’s premium Extra Special range and beers, wines and spirits.

Shoppers are able to buy a range of hot and cold takeaway food options from Asda and partner brands including Leon.

The stores will also sell ready meals and a selection of £10 meal deals for two people.

Some will also offer parcel collection, return services and a grocery delivery service through Uber Eats.

Mohsin Issa, Asda’s co-owner said: “With more than three quarters of the UK population visiting a convenience store in the last 12 months, the potential for growth in this market is significant.

“Our ambition is to become the convenience destination of choice by providing shoppers great value and a comprehensive and convenient range of products and services under one roof.”

The new Asda Express stores are fully owned and operated by Asda.

They are separate from the Asda On the Move convenience sites, which you’ve seen on garage forecourts that are owned and operated by EG Group.

Asda previously announced it was to take over 132 Co-ops, but the supermarket confirmed that these stores are separate from the deal.

It isn’t the only supermarket moving into the convenience sector.

Morrisons is set to close 132 McColl’s stores leaving 1,300 jobs at risk after buying the convenience chain earlier this year.

Last month, Tesco cut 325 jobs as part of a major shake-up as part of plans to recruit thousands of temporary workers over Christmas.

What is the Albanian Eagle celebration and which players have used it previously?

THE ALBANIAN EAGLE celebration has previously caused outrage when performed by current Switzerland squad members Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri.

But what does the gesture mean, as the Swiss prepare to take on Cameroon in their opening World Cup 2022 clash in Qatar.

Granit Xhaka scored the opening goal for Switzerland

What is the Albanian Eagle?

Both Xhaka and Shaqiri celebrated their goals for Switzerland in their 2-1 win over Serbia by making the nationalist symbol of their ethnic Albanian heritage.

The players put their open hands together to look like a double-headed eagle – like the one displayed on the Albanian flag.

Shaqiri also wore boots bearing the flags of both Switzerland and Kosovo and was jeered by Serbian fans throughout the game.

And German-Albanian defender Shkodran Mustafi repeated the celebration in solidarity with the players during Arsenal’s win at Cardiff.

Why is it controversial?

FIFA are coming under pressure from Serbia to charge the goalscorers for their celebrations – with them demanding a two-match ban which is laid down by FIFA regulations.

Shaqiri was born in Kosovo (a former Serbian province which declared independence in 2008).

Serbia do not recognise  Kosovo’s independence and relations remain tense with many families choosing to move to other European counties including Switzerland.

Xherdan Shaqiri scored in the 90th minute to give them three points

What did Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka say about the gesture?

Speaking to reporters after the game, Shaqiri said: “You can see what I did and I think it’s just emotion. I’m very happy to score this goal. It was nothing more than that. I think we don’t have to speak about this now.”

Xhaka, said: “Frankly, my opponents did not interest me at all.

“It was for my people, who always supported me. For those who did not neglect me, in my homeland, where my parents’ roots are. These were purely pure emotions.”

Were Xhaka and Shaqiri punished for the celebration?

Xhaka and Shaqiri were fined £7,630 each for the Albanian Eagle celebration, which was dubbed “unsportsmanlike conduct” by Fifa.

But they escaped a ban for “provocative gestures”, which was called for by the Serbian FA.

Captain Stefan Lichtsteiner was also fined £3,824 for making the gesture after Shaqiri’s winner.
