You can finally fix your own iPhone without going to Apple Store

APPLE is finally letting Brits repair their own iPhones for the very first time.

The tech giant has always asked that iPhone owners get repairs from authorised tech experts – but that’s all changed from today.

Apple

Apple will finally let you repair your own iPhone at home[/caption]

Apple began letting regular customers make their own repairs in the US earlier this year.

And it’s now available as a service in the UK and Europe from today.

It means you can avoid paying costly labour fees for someone to repair your iPhone.

But it’s not for tech novices: most people will be much safer going to an Apple Store, or another authorised repair outlet.

If you’re tech savvy and dead-set on repairing your own device, Apple has lots of support for you.

With Self Service Repair, you’ll be able to access official repair manuals, genuine Apple parts and tools, as well as rebates for the return of any replaced parts.

“We believe the best technology for our customers and for the planet is technology that lasts, which is why we design our products to be durable and rarely require maintenance or repair,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.

“But when a repair is needed, we want customers to have many options for safe, reliable, and secure repair.

“That’s why we’re excited to launch Self Service Repair in Europe, giving our customers direct access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and manuals.”

The first step is to review the online repair manual for your device.

Then you can order the parts and tools that you need.

You’ll enter a unique code from the repair manual to show that you’d had a look at it.

And then select which bits you actually need.

For the tools, there’s a rental option (for free) – in case you don’t want to fork out full price. A full purchase costs £54.90.

But you’ll have to pay a final fee for the replacement parts, because they obviously can’t be rented.

Once your gear has arrived, you’ll repair your device.

If you’ve rented a tool set then you’ll have seven days to get this done.

There’s also an option to use your own tools for this.

Finally, return any parts that you’ve placed. You’ll get a rebate if you do this, so definitely consider it.

Urgent warning as 300,000 Android owners infected by dangerous app – and it’s bad news if you have Facebook

FACEBOOK users have been warned about a login stealing hack that’s thought to have affected more than 300,000 Android users.

A dodgy trojan called Schoolyard Bully was found lurking in a number of apps available on the Google Play Store as well as third party app stores, according to experts at Zimperium zLabs.

This isn’t any ordinary Facebook login screen…[/caption]

The apps are usually disguised as innocent tools related to education.

But actually they try to get hold of your Facebook login details.

Unsuspecting victims can find their email address, phone number, password, ID and name stolen as a result.

They pull it off by using a Facebook login feature within their apps.

Fortunately, Google has now removed the apps caught doing it.

Most of the victims were located in Vietnam.

That’s because the apps are all in Vietnamese, so you need not worry unless you’ve downloaded an app in the language recently.

Experts believe more than 300,000 devices were caught out from across 71 countries.

“The actual number of countries could be more than what was accounted for because the applications are still being found in third-party app stores,” Zimperium zLabs said.

“To ensure your Android users are protected from the trojan malware, we recommend a quick risk assessment.”

A Google spokesperson told The Sun: “The apps identified have been removed from Google Play.

“We take security and privacy seriously, and when we find apps that violate our policies, we take action.”

It’s worth doing a quick scan with any antivirus protection apps you have.

There’s also Google’s free Google Play Protect which alerts you to any dodgy apps that you’ve downloaded.

Here’s what Google Play protect does…

Get iPhone 12 with 100GB data for £31p/m from Three

THE November sales might be over, but there are still some nice phone deals online right now.

This iPhone 12 plan from Three offers buyers 100GB of data for just £31 per month, and the phone costs £0 upfront.

Three has slashed the upfront cost of Apple’s 2020 smartphone this December

Scroll roughly halfway down the Buymobile iPhone 12 contracts webpage and you’ll find this gem of a contract from Three.

Originally, it came with an upfront cost of £65 but that’s been reduced to zero in what Buymobiles has badged a ‘Winter Wonder’ discount.

Since the release of the all-new iPhone 14 in September, we’ve watched monthly costs for the iPhone 13 tumble – but some of the best deals during Black Friday were on the iPhone 12.

Okay, it’s quite a budget phone – this is Apple tech – but £31 a month is a solid sum on what’s still a fabulous piece of tech.

It’s the first iPhone that came with an OLED display, 5G connectivity and MagSafe charging, so it’s still very much part of the new era of Apple smartphones.

Our Tech Editor Sean Keach tested the smartphone upon its release, and in his iPhone 12 review he describes it as ‘a great all-rounder with amazing features for the price’.

That price was back in 2020 – two years on, it’s all the better.

If you’ve got an eye on a newer phone, take a look at a great iPhone 13 deal our tech deals reporter Tom Tyers covered last week.

You can pick up the iPhone 13 from Vodafone with 200GB data for £30 per month and £160 upfront.

Need for Speed Unbound — Fastest car in each tier

NEED for Speed Unbound is the first game in the series for three years, and it has been a surprising hit with fans.

Some of the later races can get a little difficult, so you’ll need a good car in order to get ahead.

Criterion

Need for Speed isn’t short on fancy cars.[/caption]

However, just like in real life, some of the cars in Need for Speed Unbound are quite expensive, and frankly not worth the price tag.

Here’s our guide for the fastest cars in each tier in Need for Speed Unbound.

Need for Speed Unbound: Best B Tier car: Porsche 911 Carrera S (1997)

On the basic settings, the Porsche 911 Carrera S comfortably outspeeds every other car in the B tier.

Not only does it boast a high maximum speed, but it balances this out with decent traction control too.

UNBOUND SPEED

Race through Lakeshore City with these Need for Speed Unbound tips

If you can only afford a low-tier car, then this is the one to go with.

Need for Speed Unbound: Best A Tier car: BMW M3 Coupé (2010)

The next step up from the Porsche is the BMW M3 Coupé, which is by far the best vehicle in its class.

It’s a bit harder to control, but if you are a cautious driver, it should take you to the top of the board.

There’s a steep learning curve with this one, but worth it once you get to grips with the handling.

Need for Speed Unbound: Best A+ Tier car: Aston Martin DB11 (2017)

The A+ tier is when cars start to get seriously fast, and the Aston Martin DB11 is the best of the bunch.

This one is a smooth ride, and with it, you should be able to easily win any A+ tier race.

The only downside is the price, but once you pay the $155k, it’s smooth sailing from there.

Need for Speed Unbound: Best S Tier car: Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV (2009)

We spoke about the BMW lacking handling, but you haven’t seen anything until you sit in the Lamborghini Murciélago.

However, the huge burst in speed makes up for it as you swerve your way across the finish line.

If you thought the Aston Martin was expensive, just wait til you drop $335k on this Lambo.

Need for Speed Unbound: Best S+ Tier car: Bugatti Chiron Sport (2019)

Bugatti is a company known for its speed, and the Chiron Sport is no exception to the rule.

No traction, no brains, all reactions and redline speed. You have to go with your gut to master this one.

It’ll cost you $3.6 million in the game, but if you can hit that top speed, it’s worth every penny.

They might accidentally say something without realising that they’re being filmed with audio.

Genshin Impact Kamisato Ayato build: best weapons, artifacts, and teams

KAMISATO Ayato is a powerful five-star Hydro character, who is returning soon to banners in Genshin Impact.

He’ll still be difficult to pull, but if you’re lucky enough to get him this round, you’ll be sure to want him on your team.

HoYoVerse

Ayato is a strong damage dealer.[/caption]

Ayato can deal huge amounts of damage, making him a popular choice for Main DPS.

If you want to use Kamisato Ayato in Genshin Impact, then read our guide for how to best equip him.

Best weapons for Kamisato Ayato in Genshin Impact

Kamisato Ayato’s signature weapon, the Haran Geppaku Futsu, is the obvious and best choice for our Hydro specialist.

It increases the user’s elemental damage and also boosts the team’s elemental abilities.

CRYO SLEEP

How to equip Layla: Genshin Impact’s newest character

The weapon’s passive effect stacks the team’s ability damage that is released when Ayato uses an elemental ability.

This will improve his standard attack damage by up to 40%.

If you don’t have this sword, here are some alternatives.

  • Primordial Jade Cutter (five-star sword) – Increases HP by up to 40%, and increases attack damage based on Max HP.
  • Mistsplitter Reforged (five-star sword) – Increases elemental damage by up to 56%
  • The Black Sword (four-star sword) – Increases normal and charged damage by up to 40%, and regenerates HP when landing a critical hit.
  • Amenoma Kageuchi (four-star sword) – Enables additional energy regeneration; craftable, which makes it a great free-to-play option.

Best artifacts for Kamisato Ayato in Genshin Impact

Alongside his signature weapon, his signature artifact set Echoes of an Offering is the best set to equip Kamisato Ayato with.

Two pieces will increase attack by 18%, while four pieces increase the damage of standard attacks by 70% of the user’s attack stat.

If you don’t have this set, Heart of Depth is an alternative option, which will also increase attack by 18% at two pieces.

Here are the stats you should focus on:

  • Plume: Attack (main stat), Critical Hit Rate/Critical Damage, Elemental Mastery, Attack %, Energy Recharge (sub stats).
  • Flower: HP (main stat), Critical Hit Rate/Critical Damage, Elemental Mastery, Attack %, Energy Recharge (sub stats).
  • Sands: Attack % (main stat), Critical Hit Rate/Critical Damage, Elemental Mastery, Attack %, Energy Recharge (sub stats).
  • Goblet: Hydro Damage % (main stat), Critical Hit Rate/Critical Damage, Elemental Mastery, Attack %, Energy Recharge (sub stats).
  • Circlet: Critical Hit Rate/Critical Damage (main stat), Critical Hit Rate/Critical Damage, Elemental Mastery, Attack %, Energy Recharge (sub stats).

Best Teams for Kamisato Ayato in Genshin Impact

In teams, Kamisato Ayato works as the main damage dealer, and will spend most of his time on the field.

  • Kamisato Ayato (Main DPS), Ganyu (Sub DPS), Venti (Sub DPS), and Diona (Support)

Using this composition Ayato and Ganyu work together to ensure that the opponents remain permanently frozen.

Diona contributes some extra Cryo damage, and helps the team with healing and protective shields. Newer character Layla can fill a similar role.

Venti will act as battery for the team and will help with elemental reactions.

This team uses Hydro and Electro resonance to take down the enemies.

Ayato and Kokomi ensure that Hydro effects are always active, while Kokomi also works off-field with healing.

The Electro characters Beidou and Fischl have the same division of roles.

Fischl distributes Electro afflictions even when she’s not on the field, while Beidou with her shield not only deals Electro damage but also protects Ayato.

Aside from Cryo and Electro, Dendro is a great element for Ayato to interact with as well.

Ayato and Nahida create powerful Bloom reactions, while Kuki Shinobu heals them.

Yun Jin is a perfect addition to such a mixed team, boosting Ayato’s standard attacks further.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The ten worst Generation nine Pokémon

OVER a hundred new Pokémon were introduced in Scarlet and Violet and whether you like them or not is a matter of taste.

We’ve already talked about some of the Pokémon designs, types and abilities we love, but there are some that we’re not big fans of.

The Pokemon Company

I should play Mega Man again.[/caption]

We can celebrate the hits while also acknowledging the misses.

Here’s our list of the ten worst new Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Oinkologne

When the world was introduced to Lechonk, it instantly fell in love with the chubby lad.

As a round, chubby friend who loves nothing more than sleeping, I think we could all relate.

More in Pokémon

TOP TEN

ITEM OVERFLOW

Duplicate all the items you need with this Pokémon Scarlet & Violet glitch

On release, we got to see its long-awaited evolution, and the sigh of disappointment was almost palpable.

Why The Pokémon Company thought we wanted a sassy pig with a full face of make-up, I will never know.

Belibolt

As part of the marketing for Scarlet and Violet, we were introduced to one of the gym leaders Iono, who gave us a quiz about her partner Pokémon.

Many believed it must be connected to a previous Pokémon – my personal hope being the Dunsparce evolution we finally received – as there is no way to guess a completely fresh ‘mon.

Instead, we were greeted with the abomination that is Belibolt, which, aside from looking weird, has almost nothing going for it battlewise.

It also constantly ruins our solo Tera-raid attempts with its slow ability and consistent attempts to paralyse a shielded beast.

Spidops

It seems the law that you have to have some very underwhelming early game Bug-types, but Spidops is setting the bar very low.

We really didn’t need Spidops in an area that also carries Spewpa, one of the game’s other worst Bug-types.

It evolves early enough, but it has a slow experience curve meaning it’s painful to get there.

Once you arrive, you are rewarded with this, in what I can only assume is a trolling attempt.

Espathra

Cute Flittle gave us a lot of hope. Looking like a sweet bell, that gave us Hatterene or Gardevoir vibes.

Then it inexplicably turns into an ostrich with a Mystic Meg haircut, and then we realised that Flittle wasn’t a bell, but an egg in a skirt.

This realisation alone felt a lot, but then you have Espathra’s ability, Opportunist.

Usually a great ability that mimics positive stat changes, with the awful pacing and lag of battles, Opportunist interactions can take 30 seconds alone.

Pawmi

Pawmi is another Pikachu. An Electric-type or Pikachu-esque cutesy ‘mon that you find near the start of your adventure.

In its first stage, it is incredibly defensively poor and difficult to keep alive in the early game. Yes, it’s worse than Diglett defensively.

When you compare it to Marill, Morpeko, or Mimikyu, Pawmi just doesn’t stack up.

Aside from that, it just stands up more as it evolves, which is as lazy as adding an extra section to Dunsparce, but not nearly as funny.

Maschiff

Mabosstiff is regal, proud, loyal, and powerful, leaving aside its touching story as part of the Titans storyline.

Maschiff, on the other hand, looks sad and tired with its head hanging to the side and a depressed look on its face.

Did we need another Dark-type that’s just a dog? Probably not.

Dark-type dogs are probably on the ‘run out of ideas list’ just below electric mice, and thing with a face on it.

Crocalor

The one thing you can say about Crocalor, is it is perhaps the only middle starter evolution that is truly memorable.

However, it’s for all the wrong reasons, as our sweet, stupid lad Fuecoco grows up into a hideous monster.

After much debate we guess it’s wearing a flaming sombrero, but it’s not exactly easy to tell.

Skeledirge is fairly weird as well, but at least is has some character.

Veluza

Swimming swiftly through the water, its metal body glistening as it goes, it strikes you before you’ve seen it.

Everyone’s favourite Water/Psychic-type with very average speed Veluza.

Aside from being a thoroughly underwhelming single-stage ‘mon, its appearance is nothing like its abilities, stats or type.

Pull it together Veloser. We need some consistency.

Scovillain

Words don’t really describe how much Scovillain upsets me, with a face that rivals Maschiff in moodiness.

The funny pun for a name is decent, but it’s what we in the community call a MANS – a mixed attacker with no speed.

Being a MANS is a bad thing. It means that as a Pokémon you are almost entirely useless.

Just take the first battle lesson at the academy of your choice, and you’ll be told that choosing neither physical nor special is a disservice to Pokémon. And it’s hideous.

Armarouge/ Ceruledge

I love Mega Man. I love shooting my blaster. I love jumping on the platforms. I love using Rush Jet to cruise over levels.

This isn’t Mega Man. This is Pokémon. And Pokémon usually have a unique look that distinguish them.

This is not Digimon, where there are thousands of beasts, many of which end their digivolution as just some dude.

But I don’t want to play with some dude. I want to play with Amy Rose with a hammer made of Corviknight.
